Coconut chutney

Hey everyone, Welcome to foodbymama- a homemaker’s guide for those who love food and cooking and basically everything about it. I try using the simplest ingredients to create finger- licking recipes for my family.

As I’ve always been whining about my struggles with sticking to my diet routine, well I’ve finally managed to stay strict(yayy!). And let me tell you, that DID NOT come easy! It gets really boring after some time to keep up with the same food. So, this time I used  South India’s quintessential coconut chutney (yep, it’s served with almost every South Indian dish) with my oats chila for breakfast and guess what- it actually worked wonder!  And of course it has the added health benefits- light, low in calorie, gluten free, easy to make(pheww!), what else do you need to try this. As a kid, I used to like it for its uncanny resemblance to cottony clouds.

So here’s how you can make this simple recipe in less than 10 minutes-



Coconut(grated)- 1
Mustard seeds- 1/4 tbsp
Curry leaves -4-5
Salt- to taste
Toor dal(split Red lentils)- 1/4 tbsp
Urad dal(split Bengal gram)- 1/4 tbsp
Coconut oil -1-2 tbsp
How to make-

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds to it. When they start to splatter, add the curry leaves and lentils.
  2. When it starts changing color, add the grated coconut once it cools down and mix well.
  3. Serve the chutney with the dish of your choice.
