Pattod Steamed Rolls (Arbi ke patte)- gram flour wrapped Colocasia leaves

Apologies for the late post, the little one got his mid- terms and it’s tough to make him sit and study (yep! even harder than make him eat healthy). Really a tough job being a mother- he just won’t listen to me! Took me a while to find some time out and tried on another really healthy yet delicious snack with a not so usual ingredient- Arbi leaves (Colocasia), commonly known as Pattod in my region. And of course, the cooking technique used is one of the healthiest as well- steaming. I don’t know why but I love trying my hands at steaming (maybe because I am surrounded by the daunting fried junk most of the times). And added benefit, it makes use of gram flour- is glutten free as well!
So here’s how you can try one of my favorite tea time snacks-

Ingredients-
Arabi leaves (Colocasia leaves)- 4-5
Gramflour- 1/4 cup
Salt- to taste
Garlic cloves- 5-6(crushed)
Asafoetida- 2-3 pinch
Red pepper powder- 1/4 tbsp
Cumin seeds -1/2 tbsp
Oil- few drops
How to make-

  1. First, wash the leaves and remove the stalks.
  2. Mix all the ingredients to the gram flour and add water to make a fine paste.
  3. Coat the leaves with this paste. Make sure the coated layer is thin enough and roll the leaves carefully.
  4. Boil about 1/2 glass of water in a steamer.
  5. Now place all these rolls in it and cover it with a lid .Steam these for 8-10 minutes on high flame until the leaves turn soft.
  6. Turn off the flame and take the rolls out. Let them cool down and cut into smaller pieces.
  7. Heat 2-3 tbsp oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, sesame seeds, salt, red pepper powder and dry mango powder to it.When the seeds start to splatter, add the rolls to it and toss for about 2-3 minutes.
  8. Garnish with sesame seeds and serve.
